Charity – Orphanage Visit Part 2

Part 2

After all the games which were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, we distributed goodie packs which contained stationery and snacks. Each child received a notebook, 5 Staedtler pencils in a pencil case complete with ruler and eraser, two ball-point pens, a mechanical pencil and an assortment of delicious tidbits.

The happy ending.

In short, it was an amazing trip, albeit without a teacher advisor, and the law society could not be more proud to have such capable first-years. Here’s to a future visit sometime soon!

Charity – Orphanage Visit Part 1

To repudiate claims that lawyers are evil, bloodsucking creatures, the Law Society of HELP University College was more than happy to organize a trip to Rumah Titian Kaseh, a shelter for abandoned children. As shocking as it may seem, it is apparent that first-year law students of HELP have shown exceptional skills with children, and are able to interact with them with great ease.

Law Sock

Here’s a little update incase you guys are unsure what’s going on:

The Law Ball committee had its first meeting last Wednesday (11th Feb). While we’re still wrapping up the details, you should know that although the theme has yet to be confirmed, it will only affect the decorations and setting of the venue. The theme does not affect the dressing styles, so those of you itching to start shopping or having the taylor fly in from Vietnam/Paris can do so now. The date itself is confirmed, and Law Ball will be held on the 27th of March, a Friday.

Expect the full announcement sometime next week.

Last Wednesday was also the same day the January intake of 2009 had their orientation. To those who came, thanks for coming and we hoped you enjoyed yourselves :) Pictures will be posted up once we get a hold of them.

AGAIN on Wednesday, if you noticed the random balloons being carried about, then that was the Valentine’s Day sale at work. We’d like to thank Sherri for organizing it, and everybody who volunteered to help out! While we’re not exactly allowed to discuss profits and whatnot, it’s safe to say that the sale was a success, and the proceeds will be kept for use in any future student events.

That’s it! We’ll keep you notified.

Law Ball hotel venue voting exercise

Hey all, as the Law Ball is upon us, we have decided that in order to make this truly a Law ball by the Law students for the Law students, we have decided to narrow down a few hotel choices for you guys to decide and take a vote on.

The hotels which we have short-listed are: JW Marriott, Renaissance and One World Hotel, and we have chosen these hotels based on general public confidence, reputation, location, and the proposals which they have provided us with.

Below, we have provided some photos of the respective hotels, as well as their location in order to help you make a more informed choice. Where applicable, extra details are also added for your information.

Student representatives will come around to each of your respective classes on Monday, the 12th of January 2009 to carry out the voting exercise. We hope that we will get an encouraging response as a bigger voting participation will give us a better representation of the general consensus.

Getting there: Located right next to 1 Utama shopping centre, this hotel is easily accessible from a number of expressways such as the North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), Federal Highway, New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP).

Parking charges: entitled to a flat parking rate of RM 5 per entry

Menu: International/Western food will be served buffet-style

Why it scores points with us: As the location is pretty well known, it should be one of the more convenient choices for most people.

Ticket prices have yet to be confirmed as of now as a number of factors have to be taken into account, factors which are beyond our control at this material time. However, be rest assured that we will try our utmost best to ensure that our Law Ball tickets will be reasonably-priced. Fund-raising activities will be carried out from now until early March to help with our finances.

Also, Law Ball committees will soon be formed, so to those interested in being a committee member, do keep your eyes peeled and ears open for future announcements on this matter!

Thank you for your attention and don’t forget to vote! :D

Lets welcome the second semester with open arms, shall we? It’s gonna be an exciting one with the annual Law Ball upon us! And not to mention…the final exams! :D

To the January intake Year 1 students, welcome once again!

Help Law Society welcomes January 2009 intake

Today the January intake for 2009 was oriented with the campus and university facilities, so for those of us already a few months (or a year) into the Law program, expect to see fresh faces when you return. Do help them out if they require assistance, advice, or just directions. I’m sure you remember being helped by your seniors when you first arrived.

As for our new friends, welcome aboard!

Thank You!

“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.”

~ G.K. Chesterton

The Law Society gives thanks to everyone who made our recent Christmas Party a success in more ways than one. It was a culmination of effort put in by many people, and you made it happen with your simple presence, your lovely and delicious food, your enthusiasm, and most importantly, your support! We hope you guys had fun and enjoyed yourselves, just as much as we did. Official photos from the event will be up soon, so do check back periodically! Have a nice weekend, all, and thank you once again :D
